I built and sold thousands of IBM PC/XT clones back in the day .. and placed Microsoft Windows on the hard drives, "for demonstration purposes" .. instructing the buyers that they could purchase MS Windows online, should they desire to do so .. Probably none did ;)
That was my way of firing back at Microsoft, which provided extremely low cost Windows licensing to Dell, IBM, etc .. but ghosted me when I applied for manufacturer's licensing .. I've always disliked that guy, especially considering he basically pirated the Windows OS conceptually from earlier C/PM operating system (which I sold before the IBM's came out.. starting with Osborne computers, where I had an inside supply of surplus from when that company went bankrupt.
